A 4.3m alluminium runabout experienced engine failure during a diving/fishing trip 3NM west of Mana Island.

CRV Trust Porirua Rescue was dispatched to a known location because they were able relay their GPS position via a mobile phone to Police. They had a VHF radio on board but it was failing to transmit for an unknown reason.

They were taken under tow by Coastguard Mana and safely returned to Mana Marina.
