Boatsafe (Water Safe New Zealand)

One of the most important things you can do before heading out on the water is to check the weather conditions - both current and what's expected during your voyage. This can be checked at http://www.metservice.co.nz/marine/ and/or by listening to the Maritime Radio VHF weather broadcasts.

We also recommended the greater Wellington Regional Councils website for information on harbour safety, recreational boating information, navigation and safety bylaws and boating facilities in the Wellington and Porirua Harbours.

new to boating?

If you have purchased, or are thinking of purchasing, a boat and would like some help and/or advice with getting on the water for the first time then please get in contact with us and we will endeavour to find someone that can meet you at a boat ramp in the Mana/Plimmerton area. We do, however, strongly recommend that you complete a Day Skipper course (home study option available) which will give you and your family/crew an introduction to the basics of boating for a wide range of vessels.

More courses are available through Coastguard Boating Education - http://www.cbes.org.nz
