After rescuing a yacht we headed out onto the Mana bar to do some heavy weather training on Pelorus in the breaking waves kicked up by 30-40kt winds. The windsufers were out in force and we managed a couple of crossings out to Tokaapapa Reef before heading back in.

The purpose of the training was to give the 2 helmsman time on the helm in severe conditions to get a feel for how the vessel handles going into the surf as well as running back in with the breaking waves. A lot of concentration and timely decision making is required in such conditions, and we need to be prepared for a rescue job in all conditions.
