Coastguards main role is saving lives at sea at mostly this involves helping others. However tonight's exercises involved what happens when things go wrong with a coastguard vessel. Exercises included fire on board, sinking and abandoning ship. Because coastguard vessels are often at sea in poor conditions it is important that these exercises are practised regularly so that they happen automatically should something go wrong.
