Coastguard Radio received a call from the wife/partner of a man who had managed to get a SMS message to her to say they (3 POB, including an 11 year old boy) had broken down and needed assistance from near Pukerua Bay.

Cellphone coverage was very limited due to the cliffs and it took a while for Coastguard Radio, CGM and Police to narrow down where they were (ended up being Wairaka Point) as the information received was not particularly clear. MR1 was dispatched to search in the general area and upon rounding Te Rewarewa Pt spotted a light that appeared to be flashing at them from within the rocks close to shore. This was the vessel that had broken down (no electricity to the motor).

MR1 very carefully threaded in through the rocks and attached a line to their bow to pull them out of the rocks. The 11yo boy was taken off the vessel onto MR1 for the journey back to Mana Cruising Club.
