MR2: Trainee group - Victim recovery and local area familiarisation

The aim of the training session was to build on the theoretical Victim recovery module and expand the area familiarisation learning beyond the inner harbour limits.0800- 1030 Shore based recap on theory Victim Recovery module. Practical first aid introduction into patient care, DRABC, Defibrillator use, initial treatment of hypothermia, patient transfer methods, packaging patients for transport from CRV to land using backboard from MR2 & MR1.1030 – 1600 On water training – Area familiarisation and coastal pilotage using echo sounder and coastal landmarks. The area covered: Onehunga bay, Rocky Bay, Titahi Bay Round Point, Tirua Bay, Green Point, The bridge, South to North of Mana Island Eastern face, identification of mooring buoys, DOC landing & Shingle point, Te Rewarewa point, Hongoeka Bay, Karehana Bay, Plimmerton and Grandfather rocks area. During the transits between areas additional learned skills were practised -  4 x MOB drills were carried out, one anchoring and mooring buoy pick up, helming along contour lines using echo sounder and chart plotter, the use of landmarks and compass to steer true courses along track lines.
